Happy Birthday to You :)

Today is a very special day for me. This is the 62nd birth anniversary of my father. He has been very very special to me all my life and has been there all the time whenever and wherever I was. If there is one person who knows everything about me, thats ofcourse me :P But if there was another person, thats him! However, right from praising me when I was feeling down after my Maths exam, where I wud be in tears that I missed a centum, or when I used to come bak home in an auto every Monday afternoon after breaking my leg during games period. He has been my everything for as long as my memory goes back (erm..some 22 yrs back). I have so many things to tell about him that it wud be hard to describe everything in one go. I did try a weak attempt at this. Happy Birthday Appa !

Also, inconsequentially, this is the first birth anniversary of my blog, thanks to Makki. I am surprised at my own consistency, to be honest!

PS: Well, Consequentially, I found this. Coincidences...haha..

Google at its best!

Microsoft Chief Software Architect aka Bill Gates
"They (Google) are more like us than any of our other competitors"

Microsoft Consultancy Services, Microsoft Security Expert, Author of famous books aka Steve Riley
"The best way to search msdn is to install Google toolbar, go to msdn.microsoft.com and then search using that"

The two quotes I have heard in the last month, the latter yesterday during a user group addressing, clearly shows the dominance of Google and the envious looks its attracting from its neighbours in the Silicon Valley :) Google net income of 2004 is 2000 times lesser than Microsoft, yet these guys are scared like hell about Google encroaching upon its territory with outrageously superior technology and service orientation. Ofcourse, intelligent users are also scared about Google becoming another Microsoft and bossing over, bringing abt another "Corporate" culture.

As the famous quote by Dr. Senthil goes: "Infarmation is wealth". Its a bit scary what those guys can do with so much of info that they have! On its way to its 7th anniversary, Google is just the hottest thing to have in ur comp! Probably they shud come out with a cool desktop wallpaper..hihi

PS: If google ever do this, they shud pay me for this contextual advertising..After all, thats their keyword aint it? ;)

But cant stop wondering about their moto: "Dont be evil" - How long?

Anti-Ferrarism

Well, this one is personal...if anyone wants to counter it, be prepared for a blast of white hot fumes juz like the one on Massa's car in the inaugural Turkish GP today. Barely had the race begun was something so blatant that everyone turned deaf to. A radio message from Renault asking Alonso to overtake Fisichella and unsurprisingly Fisichella's car slowing down for a couple of tenths to let him pass through. With calls of the brilliance of team strategy from the commentators, I wonder..Excuse me fellas, remember last year when u branded the same thing as "team orders" that u cried like a wailing baby as "spoiling the image of F1". You suck...atleast ur words pretty well. If you ever read this Steve Slater/ Chris Goodwin, I wanna congratulate u with one of my fingers.

And when Schumi got hit from behind by a lap-down Mark Webber was mumbled into oblivion, even the race stewards had nothin to do with it, what the hell ??? Talk about partiality and team orders only if its against Ferrari, who have raised the standards in the last 5 years. This year has just been an example of a typical F1 year, but then with all the bashings last year against Ferrari, cos of the sole reason they were doing well, one suddenly ignores everything tht happens right now! If its not bias, I wonder what new fancy term they would invent to call this.. Maybe the existing phrases "teammate understanding" and "racing incident". I would even admonish Montoya's incident with Monteiro if not it was clear Monteiro was braking and understeering onto Montoya's car. Damn I only have two of those fingers.

Am pissed off to the core...not cos schumi was lookin set for a points scoring finish after blowing it in qualifying, but also cos as a true F1 fan, I think these guys juz donno wht the hell they are talkin abt, create public opinion and flare public sentiment with their rubbish talk, and get paid for it! I can only hope Ferrari's first V8 can do what their last V10 couldnt.. and hopefully the Champion retires a Champion.. Pained by the love of sport, I hope to receive some consolation by the end of this year through a Ferrari win, though it seems highly unlikely. Monza and suzuka seem their best bet, so lemme pray.

Last but not the least, screw all the fair weather fans, whichever team they support. Sadly, its those guys who create public opinion! I know of a lot of true McLaren fans who went quiet in the period of Ferrari domination. They never jumped ships, and they are rewarded this year, though I wud say its a case of lost opportunities.

Love the scarlet cars, they really rock..Loath the four stones that carry them around though. With schumi in full force, I hope next year, they will again set the track ablaze with their pace.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people, dispenser of India's destiny. The name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujarat and Maratha,of the Dravid and Orissa and Bengal; it echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas, mingles in the music of the Yamuna and Ganga and is chanted by the waves of the Indian Sea. They pray for thy blessings and sing thy praise. The salvation of all people is in thy hand, thou dispenser of India's destiny.

Victory, victory, victory to thee.

BACKGROUND

India's various ethnic and cultural groups are honoured in the national anthem, and the melody is very reminiscent of Indian music as well. The words and music were written by Rabindranath Tagore, the same composer of the words and music of the national anthem of Bangladesh.

Originally written in honour of the the Universal Spirit that guides India (God), and to be performed at the occassion of a visit by King George V, it was adopted as the national anthem two days before the republic was declared in 1950. At the time of adoption, another "national song" "Vande Mataram" was popular with the people and many government leaders, but the fact that Vandemataram personfied India as a Goddess was offensive to the monothestic Muslim population led to Janaganamana's adoption as the national anthem.

THE FLAG

The significance of the colours and the chakra in the National Flag was amply described by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan in the Constituent Assembly which unanimously adopted the National Flag. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan explained—“Bhagwa or the saffron colour denotes renunciation of disinterestedness. Our leaders must be in different to material gains and dedicate themselves to their work. The white in the centre is light, the path of truth to guide our conduct. The green shows our relation to soil, our relation to the plant life here on which all other life depends. The Ashoka Wheel in the center of the white is the wheel of the law of dharma. Truth or satya, dharma or virtue ought to be the controlling principles of those who work under this flag. Again, the wheel denotes motion. There is death in stagnation. There is life in movement. India should no more resist change, it must move and go forward. The wheel represents the dynamism of a peaceful change.”

Its one of those days...

This friday was one of those days to remember...and forget..Having been invited to give a talk in a Microsoft seminar, I dared to buy myself a laptop (aka lappy) juz a day before. Ofcourse, finally I look like a proper IT professional (acc to Dinx) and I got myself a pretty high end one at that. 100GB HDD (well, only 93 GB is ther thanks to Dell), 1GB RAM, DVD R/W, 15.4" Widescreen n so on. Dont get shocked if I say this is the minimum config required to run a software (VS.Net 2005 and SQL Server 2005). I stayed up overnight and installed all these things feverishly, but when I finished I realised I was late and took a cab. Thats when everything started to go wrong....

My softwares juz dint wanna work! I begged, I pleaded, I banged it, I shouted at it, it just dint wanna work! I ran back to the office to install the old version of the softwares, but it said "No dude, once u r in 2005, dont think about 2003 :P". And then I decided to create a new partition to install the old one, but then Dell says "No pal, you dint pay us $10 more, so piss off! no control over your hard disk!" By now, I had lost all hope of enticing my audience to a treat of cool code and cool stuff. Its a joke that a lot of Microsoft guys think themselves as "cool", but then my demos really were, trust me ;) With a withered look, I did manage to scare off a few organisers by hinting about the problem. I wasnt feeling so pleased about it myself! Then finally the stage. The organizer herself was a cute lil babe, so I dare say that the way she was looking at me to do some magic on stage brought back a smile to my face.. (Disclaimer for J: The characters in this part of the episode are completely fictitious and does not bear resemblance to any person, dead or alive. Any such thoughts in your mind are purely coincidental). She was a pretty bad compere though, and I did think about how Princess might have done it.. I had a couple of my students and my friends hangin abt, so I had expectations to fulfill! Finally the d-time. I had to stand in front of 300+ professionals, ranging from 20 somethings to 60 somethings to people who were already zzzzzing after a nice lunch, so it was quite a challenge. With puls in my prayers and J in my heart, I began...

.nettttt isssss aaaaa veeery niceeeee plaaaaatforrrrrm...

Damn I never knew I could be so jittery. I tried to get my thoughts away from how I sucked (er...words in this case) but once in a while in the first half, I did realise I was having some trouble getting my words out properly. Then as it progressed I was getting better. It was quite a good experience. I even played with the people who were zzzzing, by raising my voice beyond the tolerant levels once in a while, at the excuse of emphasising a point, waking them up with the shock, only to see them slowly drift back. And a few guys were staring at me the whole time as if I was God (well, assumptions are nice once in a while :P). I really missed my "cool" demos, cos sometimes words are juz not enuf.

Thanks to an exhaustive presentation I had prepared, and to the screw ups by the guys before trying to demo some non-working code, I excused myself from having to demo much. So talk I did for majority of the next 1.5 hrs and I was pretty surprised by the applause I got at the end. Well, I couldnt help but think about the age old saying "When we clap, it means thanks for ending the crap!"

I did get some enthu guys n gals come to me at the end and talk to me about my topic (oh btw, it was .Net Security in Enterprise Web Applications). One guy was overly profusive in his admiration, which made me a bit uncomfy, but otherwise was quite good. Aah, at the end of it, the gleaming babe was jumpin about in her joy. I did get some compliments from some non-IT guys as well, so that means that I was not alone in having had no idea about what I was talking about!

So much for the saga, for which at the end, the Microsoft Regional Director presented me with ..guess what...two Microsoft .Net T-shirts :P Gosh, when will these guys really change? Anywayz, it had the words "Cool Developer." haha.

My first story

Warning: If you aint a geek, u might find it all latin and greek!

This is a story of a DotNet (Doting Network) professional. He was always very clean in his outlook, as he learnt from the mistakes done by the guys before him. He owes a lot of what he is to the Composed Obsolete Model he was working with. He realised that she was an introvert who doesnt like to talk to outside people. She was very good at Transacting house-hold work though. So he decided to dump her and start afresh.

Although the modelling world fascinated him, he was more concerned with the objects he so desired to make his own. Their structures were damn appealing, and he tried to enumerate some . There was a wide array of babes. Their properties were interesting. Some were short, some were long, some were even double his size, and some even signed their signature for him. But to his agony whenever he wanted to interact with the class babes he realised his mouth was static! Most of them were very private and confidential. He realised some of them have internal glitches. Sometimes, they just classified themselves as a friend. He did not like those who were too public. Then finally one day, he protected one babe from the outside threat, and she fell in love with him. Then they had their own little inheritance. He was amazed how his children can create new ways of doing things and how fast they could make use of what he knew. But sometimes, they would override his decisions, which he was helpless to prevent. So he decided that their liberty has to be sealed.

He was always very curious and wanted to know how good a Javanese babe was or whether the UNIX minx was true, but never dared to venture outside his shell. He was loyal to his own family for a while, but he realised that he had no choice but to interface with those babes in his professional life. Since he was now famous and had cast his powerful web around, his profession wanted him to travel all around the world. But he was hesitent as that might lead to some integrity issues. He still wanted to look after his family, who were tied down in the wretched city full of broken windows. So, he thought he will offer his services remotely and got a handphone. However, his wife got bugged by the weird midnight calls from his clients. There was a lot of fight for allocating his time and resources to her. Then finally, she got so pissed off by all the unwanted attention from other babes that she erected a firewall. He tried to cross it, but all his escape ports were sealed. Financial constraints meant that he cant have his own transport to work as well. So he had to serialise the resources and he would leave with her as she goes to work in the same bus and then work with the High Traffic Train Porter service. This enabled him travel far and wide and sometimes he got lost as well. He had to sacrifice a lot of his desires...even as simple as getting a shampoo or a perfume...and be content with scrubbing himself with soap

He got lost in the Xpert Modelling Lingo for a while, but soon learnt the tricks of how to go along the Path occasionally putting forth a mushy Query. There were always a few Desired Babes that he found fascinating. He wanted to have the radical oracle, but she had very expensive taste. Some did sap his energy, others had a sigh-base. He knew that he had to find a befitting sequel. So, when he got one, he proposed to her on the table created specially for them. when she accepted, he couldnt control himself and without thinking, he inserted into her. Later, he realised that something has unwantedly got updated. He wanted her to abort, but since they did not have a legal transaction, she took the extreme step and decided to delete herself. He had no excuses as backup, and a few high volume cursors followed, and he could not stand their beatings on his conscience, so he decided to truncate the bad memories and drop the whole idea. He wanted to go back to his root, as she was the element that defined how he shaped himself in his life.

Last time I heard about him, he was cleaning Windows and crying over her dumping him. He had become the object of her delusion, and when she had shouted, he tried to get her out of his scope, and she was picked up from the Frustrated Queue by a Garbage Collector. Enraged by that, he had decided to dispose her off from his memory and resolved that he will restart his life now.

Day Off

After a long time, I got a much deserved day off, through a slice of luck though! So I aint gonna waste that my rambling about my miseries, but rather, a thot or two about what its like to be finally a bit free.

I had slept two days in the last two weeks, so aint that good for health. I know a lot of people do advice me on this, but I am a person who will push myself beyond the limits to get something done. Being the ever-optimistic crappy curious person, I want the answer to the unsolved mystery of code. But sometimes it looked as if I was inside a matrix and the words and numbers were just falling down. Then I realised the great theory of relativity! Yeah, and a few concussions on my forehead!

And last week was quite eventful as well. I got back in touch with 2 of my classmates from skool, which was pretty cool. Its always nice refreshing old memories. And suddenly someone messaged me. I thought it would foster a good friendship, part 2, but it never materialised. Egos do come in the way of understanding, though I wud say I dun have any of that. It was quite shocking to hear the kinda crap tht gals in chennai are upto! I dont want to generalize cos I rate indian gals n in particular chennai gals very very high, but juz abt this particular case of this erstwhile friend. Blind love, drink, matter, pregnancy, abortion, polygamy, personal pics gone not so personal.. u get the point... disgusting! Im ashamed that I have failed as a friend in the last 2 years. One limitation of an e-pal? It feels as if i dont even know her now! Still not able to get over it..

Well, I have had some fun as well. I have learnt some chinese after 6 years of knowing only "woh ai nee". Your guess cud be very precise in that case! Being the only indian in the company does help! Well, the Vice President is an indian, but thats about it. Anywayz, Richard (my boss, my PM and my student..hihi, yeah life is quite funny at times) taught me a few things..I aint gonna profess my expertise in chinese here, but just a few things for those who are interested.

Chinese is pictoral is what we might have learnt in skool, but its based on tones, just like hindi or sanskrit. It has four different tones:

-- - 1st tone...a bit long, flat, with a soft tone
/ - 2nd tone..a rising tone
\/ - 3rd tone..a falling and a rising tone.. more fall and a bit rise (eg: woh is wooooooah)
\ - 4th tone ..steep fall..something like jamming of breaks

As of now, few words (actually syllables) here and there (damn i gotta learn 5000 before i can speak properly it seems!) OK OK...thats enuf for today..

Coming to more interesting aspect of talking in front of 200+ people crapping as I usually do.. sounds real exciting aint it? But to do it in a Microsoft auditorium in front of professionals who will do everything to get a day off to relax with the excuse of a conference is another thing.

Disclaimer:
For those of you who are vettis in Singapore and might just be hearing a depleted skinny guy on Aug 12th, make sure u dont associate him to the author of this post. All thrashing to be done on that stage, so as to enable me keep my dignified reputation intact in this blogworld! He is my identical twin brother who got lost when he was 2 yrs old..Yeah yeah, we do have our family song to identify and hug each other when we are 60 years old!

With two masters projects lined up, and deadlines to meet and faces to greet, I guess the next week is gonna be yet another week full of inspiration, excitation, persperation and exasperation. Im refreshed and ready for it. Bring it on, timeless time babe!
