Mementous Occasion

Intrigued by how they can convert a hollywood thriller into a psychopathic kollywood entertainer, I went to Gajini yday with one of my friends, having decided at the last moment. Being that guy's last occasion of watching a movie as a bachelor, I gracefully accepted his paying the whole ticket and cab fare (that I dint have money shudnt be taken into consideration here). Although the movie costed $10, I spent $25 on cabs, which is outrageous and makes me see red. Anywayz, going into the movie...

Intro - Nayantara...yuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk !!! Ivalaam oru moonjiya...Doesnt help having been pierced with a BIG ring. Do ppl think thts sexy by any stretch of imagination? Anywyz, intro song..thot wud be some item number...then saw the eyes...those eyes..mallu eyes...mmmmm, hot sexy n wht not...now the movie gets interesting i thot...Asin was surely worth the 10 bucks, but the remaining part of the stuff wasnt worth my cab fare :P

To put in a nutshell, first half ditto copy of Memento, second half kollywood masala with song n fights. Half the thrill in watching the original movie was that the villian wont be known till the climax. The other half was the superb direction by the french director (taking the movie in stints going backwords in time). With both of these elements missing, nuthin much to say.. Except that surya tried some of the "looks" from his previous hit movies and has a new hairstyle. I thot it looked rejetted, but my better half having watched the movie half a day before me adores it, so shudnt argue too much abt that one :P

Comedy relief was provided by the fact that surya was by far the shortest of the guys in the movie and dialogues by some arivu jeevis. Example being a policeman deducing that a ten digit number corresponds to a cell phone number. Surely cracked up half the audience in an otherwise insepid movie. Lotsa gals in the audience were gasping at Riaz Khan, during his short stint. Also, Nayantara has been really made to run for her money. Trust me, keeping herself comfortably behind two guys in the race in the first half, she turns into a blistering speed keeping the hundred chasing her at bay for a whole mile before she escapes..hihihi. Songs were snogs, except one.

One scene that really struck the heart..When Surya and Asin are hit, and the whole minute or two that follows when he helplessly watches her leave him and the way she smiles then. Lovely.

Im sure this movie will become a hit, cos this is the only movie that has released arnd this time, but if u have seen Memento, forget it before watching this one! And keep chanting only one thing throughout the movie...Asin Asin Asin!

To juz give it a vikatan touch, Asin-gumm, rest Asin-gamm!

Nice review.
I don't know what people see in Nayanthara either.
Asin has a sweet expressive face though.
Memento huh? thats news to me. Hearing the story I thought it was a Bourne Identity rip off... anyway gotta see the movie soon..
